The 2018 CPSK Cerebral Palsy Charity Walk

The Cerebral Palsy Society of Kenya (CPSK) fraternity wishes to invite you the 2018 Cerebral Palsy Charity Walk which is scheduled to take place on 23rd June 2018 at Citam Buruburu. As you are aware, CPSK has been a leader in the campaign to create awareness and advocate for the rights of persons afflicted by Cerebral Palsy (CP) in Kenya. This year’s theme is ‘Every Child Counts’.

This year,  we intend to raise 20 Million to buy two mini vans to facilitate the transportation of children to – and from- the CPSK special school. The school has admitted 45 learners, out of these children 20 cannot report because of lack of transport.   As you are aware, the transport system in Kenya is not equipped for children/persons with CP. The society has also not yet understood the condition and hence still stare or stigmatize the families. Currently the society uses a van donated by one of the parents - the van can only accommodate 11 children at a time - because of the number and the location of the children; it takes more than 3 hours sometimes to get these children to school. Because most of these children are on drugs - it could take another hour to relax so that they can participate in class activities. The journey back home with the Nairobi transport is worse; children could take 3-4 hours waiting to get home.

CP is a developmental disability caused by brain damage before, during or after birth which affects the person’s ability to move and control his/her muscles. CPSK is a charitable organization catering for these children/persons and has been in operation since 1996.

Last year’s walk raised 4.6 Million out of the targeted 15million which has been disbursed as follows:-
  • ·         Awareness creation which has reported 10% increase in the number of new cases registered at the clinic
  • ·         Rehabilitation: The number of children on the rehabilitation program (daily clinic and outreach) has increased. CPSK has in partnership with Chereng’any Nursing Home in Kitale has opened the first cerebral Palsy clinic in in Trans Nzoia County.
  • ·         Sponsorship program; an additional number of 30 children were added to our sponsorship program relieving families from the estimated.
  • ·         The society has revamped economic empowerment/livelihood program through the creation of CPSK Self Help Initiative (SHI) a SACCO-like scheme which targets 50 families and 10 adults living with CP.
The management committee is making a passionate appeal to you, your family and your company to come forward and help us realize this noble dream that will give our children equal opportunities to realize their full potential. Every child counts.

The walk will involve
:- a 10 Km walk from Citam Buruburu and around eastlands where majority of children with CP come from
:- a short wheelers path back to the grounds
:- Zumba dance for entertainment
:- a football tournament with Cerebral Palsy football team
:- exhibition tents for traders/partners and friends

he management committee is making a passionate appeal to you, your family and your company to come forward and help us realize this noble dream that will give our children equal opportunities to realize their full potential. Every child counts.
